Harvest Celebration of Agriculture and Fishery is themed around the local identity of Chiayi, drawing from its strong agricultural and fishing heritage. The project transforms local industries, cultural memory, and landscapes into an immersive lantern zone that is walkable, interactive, and visually engaging.
Rather than focusing on a single product, the design connects agricultural specialties, seafood, ecological features, transportation heritage, and Indigenous culture across Chiayi’s townships. From rice, fresh seafood, and pineapple cakes to the Alishan Forest Railway; from the Mikado pheasant, black bear, and sika deer to Tsou cultural elements—these components collectively construct a narrative of abundance.
The lantern zone becomes not only a festive environment, but also a collective presentation of local identity.
The lantern zone consists of 11 installations, showcasing Chiayi’s agriculture, fishery, forestry, and Indigenous cultural characteristics. The key highlight lies in its approach to subject matter. While rooted in traditional culture and local industries, the design avoids a didactic or exhibition-oriented tone. Instead, it translates these themes into approachable, playful, and photo-friendly characters and scenes, lowering the threshold for public engagement. Local products, train culture, Indigenous cuisine, and regional specialties are reinterpreted in a friendly visual language, making the experience accessible and enjoyable.
Interactive elements are also incorporated, including game-like installations that encourage participation. Some lanterns allow visitors to sit, enter, or interact closely, transforming the displays from distant objects into shared, immersive experiences. This combination of cultural expression and public participation gives the project a distinct sense of warmth and accessibility among lantern installations.
