This project positions light as the primary medium, integrating sound, form, and spatial rhythm to transform Yilan’s urban core into a dynamic, living field of light art. Curated under the theme “Urban Core × Luminous Realm,” the design translates historical layers, natural landscapes, and local memory into a perceptible spatial experience through the penetration, reflection, and diffusion of light. As visitors move through the city, they form an emotional and sensory connection with place, establishing a culturally resonant urban perception system. Extending the concept of “Welcoming Spring in Lancheng, Blessings of the Year of the Horse,” flowing geometries articulate light as trajectories in space. These luminous paths respond dynamically to pedestrian movement and spatial conditions, symbolizing the convergence of urban energy and cyclical continuity. A gradient transition from cool to warm tones reflects the rhythm of day and night, while layered illumination constructs a “breathing” light environment. The city is reimagined as an immersive field of light—where atmosphere, emotion, and temporality coexist—positioned between reality and poetic abstraction. The project redefines the conventional lantern festival by scaling it into a city-wide light environment curation system, shifting from isolated installations to an integrated spatial narrative. The opening ceremony is conceived as a ritualized urban performance, combining traditional arts, contemporary expression, and performative choreography. Through the orchestration of light, sound, and temporal sequencing, illumination becomes a collective experiential moment—linking memory, culture, and civic identity. At activation, light expands from the central installation across the entire urban fabric, forming a synchronized lighting system. Light evolves from a functional element into a spatial narrative medium that guides movement, shapes perception, and evokes emotion. The project advances from an “object-based display” to a system-based perceptual environment, where light, sound, and human activity interact to form a walkable, immersive, and continuously evolving urban stage. Sustainability is embedded as a core design strategy, guided by principles of low-carbon design and circular systems. The project utilizes modular, reusable structural frameworks to enhance lifecycle efficiency and durability. High-performance LED systems are integrated with intelligent control platforms, enabling zonal dimming, time-based programming, and adaptive lighting responses that significantly reduce energy consumption.
