Z Majlis: A New Vision for Desert Living

The Z Majlis is conceived as a sculptural response to the desert landscape, where architecture and terrain are closely connected. Instead of imposing a dominant object on the site, the design emerges from its surroundings through a clear composition of mass, texture, and geometry. Angular volumes rise from the ground with measured proportions, creating a strong architectural presence while remaining rooted in the character of the desert environment.

Rammed earth textures define the primary material expression of the exterior. Their layered appearance recalls the sedimentary strata of the surrounding terrain, establishing a direct visual connection with the landscape. These walls are complemented by corten steel elements that introduce contrast and warmth. Over time, the corten develops a natural patina that reinforces the building’s relationship with climate, light, and time.

The massing strategy emphasizes depth and shadow. Recessed thresholds, angled planes, and carefully positioned openings create a façade that changes throughout the day as sunlight moves across the surfaces. This shifting play of light gives the architecture a dynamic presence while maintaining a restrained and disciplined composition. Openings are carefully placed to frame views while protecting interior spaces from the harsh desert sun.

Landscape design reinforces the architectural concept. Native vegetation such as cacti, grasses, and drought-tolerant plants is arranged within sculpted planting beds that follow the natural terrain. Red-toned retaining walls and subtle ground formations anchor the building visually while softening its scale.

Through the balance of material, form, and landscape, the exterior of Z Majlis presents a contemporary desert residence that is both expressive and deeply connected to its environment.
